The 2012 Summer Olympic Games (the Games of the XXX Olympiad) was held in London, England, United Kingdom, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. London became the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and in 1948. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games were organized by the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games. More than 10,000 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees participated.

In the United States, despite the complaints of airing tape-delayed events, NBC averaged 31.1 million viewers in prime time throughout the London games.
